Catherine Major

As a singer-songwriter, Catherine Major has performed on the stages of venues and festivals across Quebec and abroad. The artist has released five albums of her original repertoire to date and is also the composer and orchestrator of the opera Albertine en cinq temps (2022).

Well known for her fusion with her instrument, the piano, Catherine Major has received numerous awards over the years, including the prestigious Coup de cœur from the Académie Charles Cros, the Félix-Leclerc Prize, and a Jutra Award for Best Film Music, as well as for the intensity with which she delivers her art. She is often called upon as a composer, musician, or performer to collaborate on a variety of collective projects, from pop to classical.

Throughout various projects, performances, and over time, Catherine Major has had the pleasure of taking the stage multiple times with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, under the direction of conductors Adam Johnson, Kent Nagano, and Simon Leclerc; the Orchestre symphonique de Québec, under the direction of Fabien Gabel; and the Orchestre de la francophonie, under the direction of Jean-Philippe Tremblay. She also writes songs for her peers, notably for Diane Dufresne, and is entrusted with composing several film scores, documentaries, and the musical direction of projects.
